Rhetoric and Composition: (6 hours)


  • Two approved courses in rhetoric and composition

Mathematics: (3 hours; approved courses below will apply)


  • One approved mathematics course

Cultures and Civilizations: (9 hours total)


  • Option A: Western Humanities I and II and Non-Western Cultures and Civilizations or
  • Option B: World Civilization I, II, III

Humanities and Fine Arts: (6 hours)


  • Two approved humanities and fine arts courses, one from fine arts and one from either

Behavioral and Social Sciences: (6 hours)


  • 2 approved behavioral or social science courses in two different discipline

Foreign Language:


  • Complete two years in one foreign language or equivalent through placement.

Minor Requirement


  • Completion of a minor with a minimum 2.0 grade point average.

Additional Information and Notes


Decisions concerning the most appropriate 3000-4000 level courses for each student should be made in consultation with mathematics advisers, particularly for those students who are seeking teacher certification in mathematics and students who are planning graduate study. Mathematics 4510 is strongly recommended.

  1. Depending on Foreign Language placement tests, this elective may need to be replaced by Foreign Languages I, or Foreign Languages II by an elective.
  2. The student must take either MATH 3100 and a Math elective or MATH 4100 and 4110.
  3. Some courses in the minor may satisfy General Education and hence require additional electives to reach 120 hours.
  4. The student needs 39 hours at the 3000 - 4000 level. Thirty-six hours are indicated above. The others may be taken in General Education or in the Minor.
  5. All Math Electives must be taken at the 3000 - 4000 level. One Math Elective must be chosen from: 4100, 4310, 4450, 4460, 4550, 4570, 4600, 4700, 4720 and another Math Elective from 4050, 4110, 4200, 4250, 4270, 4320, 4510, 4610.
