The MS Engineering Management degree is designed for people with engineering or science backgrounds who have moved or expect to move into areas of managerial responsibilities. The program addresses important topics such as, engineering economics and finance, quality control and management, reliability, project management and scheduling, decision making and optimization, leadership and entrepreneurship, product development and marketing, value management, and strategic management.
The MS Engineering Management program can be completed fully online, which enables students to take courses at a time and place that fits their own schedules.
There are four graduate certificate programs offered in Engineering Management: Construction Management, Project and Technology Management, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and Quality Management.
Program Mission
The mission of MS Engineering Management programs is to provide accessible education in the theory and application of engineering management that
- Prepares students for successful careers in industry, government, and academia
- Applies tools and techniques in engineering management through team-based and individual-based projects
- Promotes life-long learning
- Serves the engineering profession
Program Objectives
In support of this mission, the Engineering Management program produces graduate who
- Function as successful professionals in a variety of engineering disciplines
- Function effectively in multidisciplinary environments
- Adapt to various environments
- Participate in further knowledge building opportunities
- Are progressing toward Professional Registration.
Prerequisites
Normally, graduates of an accredited engineering program will have met basic course requirements, allowing them to move directly into the engineering management program. For some engineering graduates, as well as for some graduates of science programs, it will be necessary to take prerequisite courses. Usually such courses fall in the areas of calculus, statistics, or undergraduate engineering economics.
Admission
Admission criteria described are minimum requirements for MS program consideration. These minimum MS admissions requirements do not guarantee acceptance into a specific graduate degree program or the UTC Graduate School
An applicant for admission to the graduate program in engineering must meet the requirements for admission to The Graduate School. For the Graduate School requirements see “Admission Requirements.”
Program of Study
Students must submit a Program of Study during the first semester of graduate coursework. The Program of Study consists of all core courses and any electives and establishes the courses the student must take for partial fulfillment of the degree requirements. The Program of Study form must include all core courses and electives, if known at the time, the student will take.
Admission to Candidacy
Students will typically file for candidacy in the semester prior to their anticipated graduation and should list all courses not listed on the Program of Study and any changes in coursework.
