The MBA degree program at UTC’s Gary W. Rollins College of Business provides a choice of delivery options: the 100% Online MBA or the Flexible MBA which offers face-to-face and online course options.  Either delivery is a good fit for working adults, full-time students and everyone in between. Face-to-face Flexible MBA classes are scheduled in the evenings.  Students admitted to the 100% Online MBA are restricted to online classes only and have priority in online courses (those listed with the PMBA prefix).  Conversely, Flexible MBA students should expect to take a combination of face-to-face and online delivered courses.  Concentrations in business analytics, finance or healthcare administration offer career-focused educational options.  Or, a general MBA allows students to select three electives from a variety of elective options including accounting, entrepreneurship, finance, healthcare administration, human resources, leadership, management, and marketing.

Admission

A student who holds a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a regionally accredited college or university may be considered for admission to the MBA program. Applications are accepted by the Graduate School at any time; however, in order to ensure adequate time for consideration, the completed online application, Graduate Management Admissions (GMAT) test score or alternatively a Graduate Record Exam (GRE) test score, and any other supporting credentials should be received by the Graduate School no later than two months prior to the beginning of the term for which admission is desired.

Application Procedures

To be considered for admission into the MBA program, a student must meet ALL of the following requirements:

1. Have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution (any major is acceptable). An official transcript is required from each previously attended college. An application and non-refundable application fee is required. Domestic applicant fee is $35 and international applicant fee is $40; fees should be submitted to the Graduate School.

AND

2. Be granted admission to the Graduate School at UTC based on one of the following:

  • 2.70 minimum GPA for all undergraduate work taken for the baccalaureate degree or
  • 3.00 GPA for the last two years of undergraduate academic coursework or
  • 3.0 GPA for 30 or more semester hours undergraduate credit after earning the first bachelor’s degree or
  • 2.70 GPA for the last two years of undergraduate academic coursework and a 3.00 GPA on fewer than 24 hours graduate coursework or
  • 3.00 GPA for 24 or more graduate hours or
  • An earned master’s degree or higher-level degree with at least a 3.00 GPA

All GPAs are based on a 4.0 point scale; the last two years of undergraduate coursework are equivalent to approximately 60-70 semester hours or 90-100 quarter hours.

AND

3. Have an official Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) score of 450 or above or alternatively an official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) with a minimum 146 on the verbal section and a minimum 144 on the quantitative section. Scores must be from the last 5 years. The GMAT is offered at Pearson Professional Center. For more information on taking the GMAT refer to www.mba.com. The GRE is offered at the Prometric Testing Center. For more information on taking the GRE, refer to www.ets.org/gre.

GMAT/GRE waiver requests will be considered for applicants who meet one of the waiver criteria listed below. Applicants will make the waiver request during part 2 of the application process (completing the MBA program application) and at that time must also select the waiver option they believe they meet.  Meeting the below criteria does not guarantee a GMAT/GRE waiver.

To be considered for a GMAT waiver, applicants must have earned a:

  • Previous graduate degree or higher with a 3.0 cumulative GPA* or higher; OR,
  • 3.25 cumulative undergraduate GPA* plus 5 years of professional work experience; OR,
  • UTC undergraduate Business major or other AACSB university Business major with a 3.0 cumulative GPA* and 3.2 cumulative GPA* within an AACSB business major (defined as upper level courses in business).
* Note: Applicants must have a degree conferred prior to UTC determining they meet any waiver involving a GPA. Any applicants currently working on coursework toward their degree will not be considered for a waiver or admission until after a final official transcript is submitted indicating degree conferral.

Waiver requests forms and instructions can be obtained from the Rollins College of Business Graduate Programs Office website at www.utc.edu/college-business/academic-programs/graduate-programs/mba/index.php.

Concentrations and Elective Courses (9 hours)

MBA students must complete 9 hours of elective courses. Electives may be selected from any discipline within the Rollins College of Business. MBA students may select one or more concentrations and complete electives in the area(s) of concentration as noted below. MBA students wishing to pursue more than one concentration must apply for one concentration and notify their advisor of the intent to pursue additional concentrations. Note that each concentration requires a minimum of 9 semester credit hours and electives used in one concentration may not be counted toward other concentrations. An additional concentration is NOT an additional degree. MBA students may also receive their degree without a concentration. The offering of electives is determined by student demand. Some elective and concentration courses may only be available either face-to-face or online. Electives must be chosen in consultation with and approved by the MBA advisor. MBA students may request permission to take electives outside the Rollins College of Business based on career and professional objectives. Such requests must be submitted in advance and in writing to the MBA advisor along with the course syllabus, reason for taking the course and approval of the applicable non-Rollins College of Business department head. All requests to take electives outside the Rollins College of Business must be pre-approved by the Rollins College of Business Associate Dean. Note that 100% Online MBA students are restricted to online classes only (those listed with PMBA prefixes) and are given registration priority in online classes. Also, only 100% Online MBA students may take courses with the PMBA prefix.
