NURS 7611 - Anesthesia for Surgical Procedures & Special Populations II


(3) Credit Hours

This course is a comprehensive examination of anesthetic considerations for patients undergoing various surgical, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures. Specialty surgical areas presented are organ transplantation, trauma, major vascular, burns, and spinal procedures. Specific population considerations are geriatric and obese patients. Emphasis is on integrating physiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology considerations unique to these specialty surgical procedures and populations and applying clinical reasoning into the student’s clinical practice. The importance of integrating this knowledge and the inclusion of culturally relevant information while developing an anesthetic management plan for individuals will be emphasized.  Current, evidence-based techniques and best practices related to these patients’ safe management will be presented. Prerequisites: NURS 7610  with a minimum grade of B or department head approval. Admission to the DNP Nurse Anesthesia Concentration.Differential course fee will be assessed.
