Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: College of Arts and Sciences

In the Latin American Studies major, students develop cultural, historical, anthropological, artistic, and literary competencies in modern Latin American Studies. This comparative, cross-disciplinary and multicultural education prepares students to succeed and adapt to our modern global society. In addition to gaining a multidisciplinary understanding of the forces affecting our knowledge of the Americas, Latin American Studies students will develop key skills for today’s job market, such as excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to analyze and interpret data, historical texts and qualitative information, a repertoire of problem-solving strategies, and interpersonal skills such as collaboration, persuasion, resilience and self-reliance.

Our program prepares students to create compelling arguments with research-based evidence, and it fosters understanding of the worldviews, social realities, and the cultural and artistic creations of the many countries that make up the Latin American world.
