HHP: Exercise and Health Sciences Applied Professional, B.S.

The HHP: Exercise and Health Sciences Applied Professional program is designed to prepare students to practice in the field after graduation. Students completing this degree might seek employment in private, corporate, hospital or governmental fitness or wellness programs and facilities. Graduates might also pursue careers in strength and conditioning or with other organizations promoting health such as Health Departments and organizations such as the American Heart Association. It will also prepare students for various certifications such as the Certified Health Education Specialist Exam offered by National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, the American College of Sports Medicine Certified Exercise Physiologist and the National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.
Continuation Standards, Internship Admittance and Graduation Standards
The following standards will be applied for all individuals enrolled in the Exercise and Health Sciences concentration:
- To continue to progress in the Exercise and Health Sciences concentration, students are required to:
- Earn a minimum grade of C in all HHP and NUTR classes required for the Exercise and Health Sciences concentration;
- An overall GPA of 2.5 is required to register for 2000, 3000 and 4000 level required HHP classes;
- Transfer students must have an overall GPA of 2.50 to select the HHP: Exercise and Health Sciences concentration as their major.
- If, in the judgment of the faculty, there is reason to question the emotional and/or cognitive readiness of the student to successfully complete an internship, the faculty have the right and the obligation to exclude the student from the internship.
- Students may be required to purchase uniforms/lab attire for field experiences and/or internships. Internship placement is very competitive and based upon previous class work, field experiences, and internship site coordinator interviews. Students may need to be financially prepared for travel and living expenses if choosing to intern outside the Chattanooga area.

Specialization
Complete a minor or select 18 hours from the courses below.
Internship or Experiential Learning
Complete 6 hours in this category. HHP 3900 may not be used in both Specialization and Internship/Experiential Learning.
Additional Information and Notes
Electives to complete 120 hours.
Minimum grade of C required in all HHP and NUTR courses required for the Exercise and Health Sciences concentration.
2.0 GPA in all required major and related courses.
Minimum of 39 hours of 3000 and 4000 level courses.
