HIST 2420 - Early National and Antebellum America (CZ or HF)

This course examines the early national and antebellum periods of American history from the aftermath of the American Revolution to the eve of the Civil War. Special emphasis will be given to the various peoples, ideas, and cultures that shaped this dynamic era of American history, the debate over the ratification of the U.S. Constitution, the competing visions for national development of the Federalists and Republicans, the impact of the transportation and market revolutions, the rise of American democracy, the territorial expansion of the U.S., and the origins of the Civil War. Once every four semesters.
