PHYS 5830 - Quantum Error Correction and Fault-Tolerance (3) Credit Hours
This course provides a comprehensive study of quantum error correction and fault-tolerance, critical for building reliable quantum computers. Topics include stabilizer codes, surface codes, logical qubits, fault-tolerant gate implementation, error thresholds, decoherence-free subspaces, and advanced methods such as topological quantum error correction and quantum low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes. By the end of the course, students will understand the theoretical and practical aspects of ensuring robust quantum computation. Spring semesters. Prerequisites: MATH 5650 , PHYS 5110 , PHYS 5810 , CPSC 5730 , or Department Head approval.
Effective Spring 2026.
