EDUC 4445 - Residency II in Visual and Performing Arts, Health and Physical Education K-12

(10) Credit Hours

Residency II program offers a unique synthesis of theory and practice, building off Residency I, combining a yearlong classroom apprenticeship with a carefully aligned sequence of coursework. Residency II is a mutually beneficial partnership between UTC School of Education and partnership districts. The partnership is one in which the integration of clinical experiences and coursework throughout the preparation program is co-designed to strengthen teacher preparation and improve schools and learning in the partner districts. Teacher candidates spend the full academic year in a district school, developing under the guidance of an experienced mentor teacher. Using a variety of instructional coaching strategies, mentors provide valuable insight into effective teaching methodology, helping residents develop the knowledge, skills and habits of mind that come from years of experience in high-need classrooms.
