MOSA 1010R - Mentoring and Leadership (1) Credit Hours
This course is designed to introduce the learner to the necessary social and leadership strategies for mentoring an individual with Autism Spectrum Disorders in higher education. Participants in this course will gain information and a more holistic understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), the diagnostic and personal impact felt by individuals with ASD and how to compose themselves as successful students and student leaders. Students will also gain the knowledge to be an effective advocate for individuals with ASD while maintaining a healthy relationship with their student peer. Lastly, students will gain skills and comfortability to utilize active listening, coaching and feedback techniques in a way that will enable them to model positive decision-making strategies. Fall and spring semester. Prerequisites: Program director approval.
