EDUC 3210 - Literacy Instruction in the Content Areas (3) Credit Hours
Integrating 21st-century skills, instructional strategies, and formative assessment practices within a balanced literacy framework. Emphasizes reading, writing, listening, speaking, visualizing, and visually representing as modes of learning content-area subjects in secondary schools. Focuses on adolescent literacy development of discipline-specific skills and knowledge, with adaptations for culturally diverse, language minority, and exceptional learners. Required of all secondary and middle grades education majors. Field component required. Fall and spring semesters. Prerequisites: Checkpoint 1 or department head approval. Laboratory/studio course fee will be assessed.
