ECON 4370 - Health Care Economics


(3) Credit Hours

Health economics aims to understand the behavior of individuals, health care providers, public and private organizations, and governments in decision-making related to health and healthcare. Why does per capita spending on healthcare in the U.S. significantly exceed that of all other advanced economies? Why are prescription drug prices so high in the U.S.? Why does inequality in accessing healthcare persist in the U.S.? This course will evaluate these and other issues impacting stakeholders in the healthcare industry including individuals, doctors, insurance providers, employers and governments in the context of healthcare systems in the U.S. and abroad. Fall semester. Prerequisites: ECON 1020  with a minimum grade of C or department head approval. Junior Standing.  Differential course fee will be assessed.
