NURS 7720 - DNP Anesthesia Practicum III (4) Credit Hours
The third in a sequence of six DNP clinical courses that provide learning experiences for integrating and applying evidence-based theoretical and scientific foundations and development of competencies essential for safe administration of anesthesia services across the lifespan. This course promotes clinical reasoning and decision-making. Student registered nurse anesthetists will achieve competency in practice growing from novice to expert as they progress through the clinical practicum courses. Each clinical practicum builds on previously developed competencies, skills, and knowledge. Simulated clinical experiences will bridge the connection between didactic learning and safe, effective patient care. The beginning novice student practices under the constant supervision of a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). As the student’s knowledge and clinical acumen increase, the student may be supervised by a CRNA, by both a CRNA and physician anesthesiologist, or solely by a physician anesthesiologist. The schedule for this course does not follow the academic calendar. A minimum of 28 credit hours of the DNP anesthesia clinical courses is required for graduation. Prerequisites: NURS 7611 with a minimum grade of B; NURS 7710 with a grade of S (Satisfactory) or department head approval. Admission to the DNP Nurse Anesthesia Concentration. Differential course fee will be assessed. Graded Satisfactory/No Credit.
