PUBH 5140 - Integrating Science & Ethics into Public Health Practice

(1) Credit Hours

This seminar applies concepts and knowledge presented during the public health foundation courses into real world situations characterized by uncertainty, risk, competing interests, and conflicting values. This seminar uses a series of case studies of actual health events to help students analyze the complicated nature of public health practice. The various cases immerse students in the complex arena of public health decision-making, placing them in the role of stakeholders where they must use their core knowledge and multi-disciplinary perspective to explore different options and justify their responses to public health challenges. The cases also provide an opportunity to identify crosscutting themes, such as trade-offs in public health decision making, inequities and inequalities, public health ethics, interest group agendas, funding and available resources, and public perception.Fall semesters.Satisfactory/No Credit
