PUBH 5130 - Foundations in Public Health III: Principles of Epidemiology & Biostatistics in Public Health Practice

This course blends key concepts of epidemiology and biostatistics related to public health practice. The first part of the course covers basic epidemiology principles, concepts, and procedures necessary for investigating health-related events. An emphasis is placed on current methodologic concepts and applied epidemiologic methods to evaluate public health programs. Students learn the basics to epidemiologic research, selecting appropriate research designs, and analyzing scientific reports and manuscripts. The second part of the course provides students with a foundation in the basic principles of biostatistics in the context of public health. Topics include producing descriptive statistics, probability distributions, point and interval estimation of population parameters, and hypothesis testing. Students use statistical software to interpret results and present findings from public health data sets.Standard Letter Grade
