PUBH 5430 - Physical Activity and Public Health (3) Credit Hours
This course introduces students to the role of physical activity in public health. The role of physical activity promotion for disease prevention (including basic biological and physiological mechanisms of physical activity), across the lifespan, and in special populations is addressed. The course explores behavioral, environmental and policy approaches to increase population levels of physical activity. Students learn how to effectively assess and monitor population physical activity levels, use epidemiologic techniques to describe the relationship between physical activity and health, design interventions focused on improving health, and develop public health policies aimed at impacting physical activity behavior.
