PUBH 5410 - Fundamentals of Chronic Disease Epidemiology and Prevention


(3) Credit Hours

This course provides an overview of the major topics and issues in chronic disease epidemiology, prevention, and control including: 1) epidemiology of selected chronic diseases, 2) major risk factors for selected chronic diseases, 3) behavioral, genetic, social and economic determinants of chronic diseases. This course also provides instruction on the surveillance and measurement of chronic diseases and relevant exposures, major population-based studies of chronic diseases, primary and secondary chronic disease prevention, and principles of chronic disease prevention practice and research applied to local, state, and regional.  It is recommended (but not required) that students take Foundations of Public Health I (Public Health Practice & Chronic Diseases) and Foundations of Public Health II (Biostatistics & Epidemiology in Public Health Practice) prior to enrolling in this course.
