PHYT 7225 - Physical Therapy Management of Medical/Surgical Conditions III (3) Credit Hours
This course will provide the student with evidence-based didactic and clinical applications as a basis for clinical decision making in the management of physical therapy patients/clients with acute and chronic condition - including those with routine or complicated multiple system impairments. Prioritization of impairments and intervention strategies to facilitate safe early mobility for adult patient/clients in the acute care setting will be emphasized for those in regular admission status as well as those in observation status, emergency department status and ICU admissions. There will be focus on appropriate inter-professional coordination and communication among rehabilitation staff (PT/PTA/OT/SLP), physicians, nursing, case managers and patient/family to recommend and facilitate appropriate discharge plans and to achieve optimal physical therapy outcomes for the patient.
Spring semester; year 2. Differential course fee will be assessed.
