MLNG 2400 - African and Caribbean Film (3) Credit Hours
This course offers a contemporary perspective on cultural identity, gender, race, history and memory in postcolonial African and Caribbean societies through the medium of film. In addition to a basic understanding of the terms and methods used in film analysis, students will explore the socio-political background in which these films have emerged as dynamic and politically engaged examples of postcolonial cinema. Students will also discover the historical, economic, and cultural context of these former colonies. Spring or summer semester. Lecture 3 hours.
