CPSC 5580 - Software Defined Networks

Software Defined Network (SDN) is an approach to computer networks that allow the network administrators to manage network services through higher-level functionality through decoupling the traffic routing decisions in the control plane from the traffic forwarding in the data plane. Students will learn different methods and techniques in communicating the control plane with the data plane using OpenFlow protocol. Students will gain knowledge on security issues in Software Defined Networks and Network Function Virtualization. The course will cover recent developments in computer networking research through reading and presenting classic and new papers in the field. Students will enhance their critical thinking through research-based projects, and improve their skills in systems and security programming, and presentation skills. Prerequisite: CPSC 5550 or department head approval. Differential course fee will be assessed.
