In the Spanish for Healthcare minor, students develop linguistic and cultural competencies in order to prepare them to work in the field of medicine. This program prepares students to succeed and thrive in careers as bilingual healthcare providers or interpreters in medical settings. In addition to gaining language proficiency and intercultural competence in Spanish, students will develop key skills for today’s job market, such as oral and written communication skills, analyzing and interpreting information, problem-solving, resilience, and self-reliance.

Minor requirements

18 hours of Spanish courses including the following:

SPAN 2110 - Spanish Language and Culture III (CZ or HF)
SPAN 2120 - Spanish Language and Culture IV (CZ or HF)
SPAN 3110 - Spanish Cinema: Conversation and Composition I
SPAN 3120 - Spanish Short Stories: Conversation and Composition II
SPAN 3600 - Spanish for the Professions or
SPAN 3620 - Spanish for the Professions: Health
6 hours of Spanish electives at the 3000 or 4000 level

Students who test out of SPAN 2110 or SPAN 2120 can replace these with 3000 or 4000 level Spanish courses.

Additional Information and Notes

Minimum 2.0 average in the minor.

Eight credit hours must be at the 3000 level or above.
