Integrated Studies: Accelerated Pre Medical Studies, B.I.S.

The Post-Baccalaureate Accelerated Pre-Medical Studies Program offers students: 

  • A streamlined pathway to complete all required and many recommended courses for medical school admission.

  • Opportunity to earn Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification, providing valuable clinical experience.

  • Potential clinical and mentorship partnerships with UTSHC Chattanooga (at Erlanger) and other local healthcare organizations.

Admission to the Post-Baccalaureate Accelerated Pre-Medical Studies Program 

This program is designed for individuals who have earned a BA, BS, or BAS 4-year degree and are interested in pursuing medical school.

Enrollment in the PBAPM is limited and the number of qualified applicants may exceed the number of students who can be admitted.  Meeting minimum requirements for admission does not guarantee acceptance.

Admission Criteria:
To be eligible for the program, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree (BA, BS, or BAS).

  • Have completed 2 semesters of General Biology with labs. 

  • Have completed at least 1 semester of General Chemistry with lab. 

  • Have completed Pre Calculus or higher level Math class (or be eligible to enroll).  

  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 for first degree. 

  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.3 for required pre requisite courses 

Students who have not completed two semesters of Chemistry will be required to enroll in a Summer Course (General Chemistry II) prior to starting the program.

Additional Information and Notes


2.0 average in all courses within the approved program of study.

Minimum of 39 hours of 3000 and 4000 level courses.

Electives to complete 120 hours.
