At the graduate level, the School of Education at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga offers a 33-36-semester-hour Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree in Elementary Education and English as a Second Language. The program includes 30 hours of professional education coursework and 3–9 hours of an approved clinical experience. Successful completion of the program, along with passing scores on the required state exams, qualifies candidates for two Tennessee teaching licenses in Elementary Education (K–5) and English as a Second Language (Pre-K-12th). Three licensure pathways are available: Job-Embedded Induction, Induction Experience (traditional student teaching), and Internship.

Program of Study
Master’s of Education in Elementary Education and English as a Second Language is a 33-36 credit-hour program leading to M.Ed. Teacher candidates seeking licensure with M.Ed. completion (Endorsement Code 120; Elementary Education K-5th and 490; English as a Second Language Pre-K-12th) have three licensure pathways available: Job-Embedded Induction, Induction Experience (traditional student teaching), and Internship. Teacher candidates seeking licensure in Elementary Education and English as a Second Language, along with an M.Ed., are required to complete 3-9 credit hours of clinical experience. Graduate coursework includes 30 hours of professional education and 3-9 hours of an approved clinical experience. Successful completion of the program, along with passing scores on the required state exams, will qualify a student for an Elementary Education (K-5) and English as a Second Language (Pre-K-12th) licenses in Tennessee. The Elementary Education and English as a Second Language M.E.d. includes licensure options for endorsement code 120 Elementary Education K-5th and 490 English as a Second Language Pre-K-12th. Teacher candidates seeking licensure with M.Ed. are required to complete 3-9 credit hours of clinical experience. For licensure with M.Ed. a total of 33-36 semester credit hours of graduate coursework is required. Graduate coursework includes 30-33 hours of professional education and 3-9 hours of approved clinical experience.
