Elementary Education: Elementary Education, M.Ed. (Licensure)

At the graduate level, the School of Education at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga offers a 30-semester-hour Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree in Elementary Education. The program includes 21-27 hours of professional education coursework and 3–9 hours of an approved clinical experience. Successful completion of the program, along with passing scores on the required state exams, qualifies candidates for a Tennessee teaching license in Elementary Education (K–5). Three licensure pathways are available: Job-Embedded Induction, Induction Experience (traditional student teaching), and Internship. 

Program of Study


Master’s of Education in Elementary Education is a 30-credit-hour program leading to M.Ed. Teacher candidates seeking licensure with M.Ed. completion (Endorsement Code 120; Elementary Education K-5th) have three licensure pathways available: Job-Embedded Induction, Induction Experience (traditional student teaching), and Internship. Teacher candidates seeking Elementary Education licensure with M.Ed. are required to complete 3-9 credit hours of clinical experience. Graduate coursework includes 21-27 hours of professional education and 3-9 hours of an approved clinical experience. Successful completion of the program, along with passing scores on the required state exams, will qualify a student for an Elementary Education (K-5) Tennessee license.

M.Ed. with licensure options


The Elementary Education M.E.d. includes licensure options for endorsement code 120 Elementary Education.K-5th grades. Teacher candidates seeking licensure with M.Ed. are required to complete 3-9 credit hours of clinical experience. For licensure with M.Ed. a total of 30 semester credit hours of graduate coursework is required. Graduate coursework includes 21-27 hours of professional education and 3-9 hours of approved clinical experience.

EDUC 5970R - Job Embedded Mentoring  1-3 hours

 

Option 2 (Student Teaching; graduate)

EDUC 5950 - Professional Seminar  3-9 hours

EDUC 5960 - Induction Experience  3 hours

 

Option 3 (Internship with SOE Approval ONLY)

EDUC 5981 - Internship I  3 hours

EDUC 5982 - Internship II  3 hours

EDUC 5950 - Professional Seminar  3 hours

 

*Internship I and Internship II are only allowed for students participating in approved programs. A student must enroll in both Internship I (fall semester only) and Internship II (spring semester only).
