The Department of Mathematics offers a minor in computational optimization designed to introduce students from any discipline to the fundamentals of mathematical programming and optimization. This program provides a strong foundation in calculus, logic, and algebra, essential for understanding both linear and nonlinear optimization techniques. Students will also be exposed to several programming and modeling languages, equipping them with the tools necessary to implement and solve complex optimization problems. By completing this minor, students will develop advanced skills in mathematical modeling and computational methods, which are crucial for research and application in various fields. These skills are highly valuable to employers and graduate programs that seek candidates with strong analytical, computational, and quantitative abilities.
