Cooperative Program (Co-op)

Students majoring in a College of Engineering and Computer Science program have the capability to add a cooperative experience into their academic program. Cooperative experiences (or co-ops) are workforce experiences that align with academic programs of study where students work full-time for the employing organization. Students often use career services support within UTC to seek and apply for co-ops. Like all employment, hiring decisions are made by the employing organization. Once a CECS student receives a co-op job offer, they can select to work with members of the CECS staff or faculty to register the co-op and integrate it into their academic transcript and degree progress plan. Students who are interested in learning more about co-ops, searching for co-op opportunities, or registering a co-op they have received an offer to fill are encouraged to contact the CECS Center for Student Success at CECS-SuccessCenter@utc.edu or 423-425-5464.

Program Objectives:

The Co-op program is designed to: (1) provide practical experience which relates academic studies to industry requirements, (2) give the student a better understanding of human relations in industry, and (3) assist the student financially.

Registration Information:

Co-op students are required to register each term (including each term in industry) as a co-op student. A $25 fee is assessed the student for registration during the work term.
