The highly automated manufacturing industry of the 21st century has created a high demand for engineers and technologists who not only have a knowledge of the engineering fundamentals, but are also well versed in systems integration, project management, technical communication, device networking, procurement, supply chain management, and industrial safety.
A graduate of the Mechatronics Engineering Technology program at UTC will be well poised to assume responsibilities as a process engineer, plant manager, design engineer, maintenance supervisor, sales engineer, and project manager in automation-based industries such as automotive industry, food and chemical processing plants, automation solution providers, industrial controls companies, and aviation industries.
Program Mission:
The mission of the Engineering Technology Management (ETM) and the Mechatronics Engineering Technology (MET) programs at UTC is to provide accessible education in the principles and application of technology and management of technology, while preparing students for life long learning and being productive in today’s competitive work environment.
Program Educational Objectives:
In support of the program mission, graduates of the Mechatronics Engineering Technology program will:
- Be prepared to hold technical positions that require analysis, applied design, development, implementation, and oversight of mechatronic systems and automated processes.
- Have the knowledge, problem-solving ability and hands-on skills to be successful in careers in the design, commissioning, testing, evaluation, technical sales, or maintenance of mechatronic systems.
- Appreciate the need for, and will pursue, self-directed professional development opportunities, such as graduate work, additional trainings, and participation in professional organizations.
Program Student Outcomes:
In support of the program education objectives, each graduate from the UTC Mechatronics ET program will have demonstrated prior to graduation:
- an ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of mathematics, science engineering, and technology to solve broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline;
- an ability to design systems, components, or processes meeting specified needs for broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline;
- an ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in broadly-defined technical and non-technical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature;
- an ability to conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments and to analyze and interpret the results to improve processes; and
- an ability to function effectively as a member as well as a leader on technical teams.
