Interdisciplinary Educational Studies: Exceptional Learning K-8 Interventionists, B.S.

Exceptional Learning Programs at the University of Tennessee- Chattanooga offers three unique undergraduate degrees and related paths to teacher licensure in the state of Tennessee. Exceptional Learning programs leading to teacher licensure include: Special Education Comprehensive (Grades K-12); Special Education Interventionist (Grades K-8); Special Education Interventionist (Grades 6-12). The Interdisciplinary Educational Studies: Exceptional Learning K-8 Interventionists, Bachelors of Science Degree trains teacher candidates in evidence-based practices for supporting students with mild to moderate disabilities across elementary and middle grades. Candidates who complete Interdisciplinary Educational Studies: Exceptional Learning K-8 Interventionists, B.S. also obtain educator licensure in Special Education Interventionist Grades K–8, Endorsement code 144 in the State of Tennessee.

Additional Information and Notes


For admission to the Teacher Education Program (TEP): Earn a minimum 2.75 cumulative grade point average, a 2.75 average on all courses taken at UTC, a 2.75 GPA in education courses with no grade lower than C, and a 2.75 in content area courses with no grade lower than C.

For graduation: 2.0 GPA in all required major and related courses.

For graduation with licensure: 2.75 cumulative, 2.75 at UTC, 2.75 in education courses with no grade lower than C, and 2.75 in courses under Program Requirements with no grade lower than C.

Minimum of 39 hours of 3000 and 4000 level courses.

Electives to complete 120 hours.
