Post Graduate Certificate- Acute Care Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner

The school of Nursing offers a Postgraduate certificate as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP). Upon completing the requirements, the graduate will be eligible to sit for one of the national certification exams offered by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) or the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The 24 semester hour AGACNP postgraduate concentration consists of specialty courses in adult gerontology acute care nursing and support courses in the social sciences and also includes the intensive clinical practicum (total 750 clock hours) which parallels the didactic courses.
The admission requirements are as follows:
- Must have a MSN or DNP as an APRN with an unencumbered license in the state of Tennessee or multi-state RN license if Tennessee is not the student’s state of residence.
- Minimum of one year of acute/critical care experience for the AGACNP specialty
- A gap analysis will be completed for all applicants, and the School of Nursing reserves the right to require additional courses if the student does not have all courses needed for certificate completion.
