What is a Master of Management?

A Master of Management (MSM) is a graduate-level business degree that can prepare students for organizational leadership responsibilities. The MSM includes courses in leadership, decision-making, ethical business practices, organizational behavior, strategic human capital management, diversity and inclusion tactics, project management, and career planning and development. A Master of Management degree is applicable to all industries, such as technology, hospitality, healthcare, retail, energy, business services, and construction.

How does the Master of Management compare to the Master of Business Administration (MBA)?

MBA programs typically include more “business essentials” courses such as accounting, finance, economics, and marketing and have a stronger focus on financial analysis, statistical decision models, accounting information, valuation techniques, and quantifiable business outcomes. MSM programs generally tend to focus on critical interpersonal, managerial, and leadership skills for the purpose of bettering employee motivation and performance, unit engagement, and organizational culture, thereby advancing the business.

International Applicants

The University wishes to encourage qualified graduate applicants from other countries. Accordingly, The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga will accept as equivalent in level, structure, scope and intent the new European degrees, adopted under the Bologna Process. The University will also consider three-year bachelor’s degrees earned in Division I and II institutions in India and accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) as comparable to four-year U.S. bachelor’s degrees. UTC will consider other three-year degrees on a case by case basis.

Students whose native language is not English are required to provide official scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing Systems (IELTS). An official TOEFL score of 79 or above, or an IELTS score of 6.0 or higher is required. Applicants may ask The Graduate School for an exemption from the TOEFL or IELTS requirement if they:
