Engineering Technology Management: Engineering Management, B.S.


Engineering Management is a concentration in the Engineering Technology Management (ETM) undergraduate program at UTC. The purpose of the concentration is to provide a comprehensive and quality learning environment with scholarly and service activities that prepare students to manage engineering and technical professionals. Engineering management is a career that brings together the technological problem-solving savvy of engineers and the organizational, administrative, and planning abilities of managers to oversee complex enterprises from conception to completion such as product development, manufacturing, construction, etc.

Program Mission:

The mission of the Engineering Technology Management (ETM) program at UTC is to provide accessible education in the principles and application of technology and management of technology, while preparing students for life-long learning and being productive in today’s competitive work environment.

Program Education Objectives:

In support of the program mission, graduates of the ETM program will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the necessary understanding of planning, organizing, and problem-solving skills to provide value-added services in technical or management positions;
  • Demonstrate good communication skills and be able to function well in multidisciplinary teams as leaders; and
  • Appreciate the need for, and to pursue, self-directed professional development opportunities, such as graduate work, trainings, and participation in professional organizations.
Program Student Outcomes:

In support of the program education objectives, each graduate from the UTC Engineering Management program will have demonstrated prior to graduation:

  1. an ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline; 
  2. an ability to design systems, components, or processes meeting specified needs for broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline;
  3. an ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in broadly-defined technical and non-technical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature;
  4. an ability to conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments and to analyze and interpret the results to improve processes; and
  5. an ability to function effectively as a member as well as a leader on technical teams.
Degree and Accreditation:

Engineering Technology Management program graduates obtain a B.S. degree. This program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org.

Natural Sciences: (7-8 hours)


  • Two approved natural science courses, at least one including a laboratory component

Non-Western Culture: (3 hours)


  • One approved non-western culture course

Additional Information and Notes


127 total hours required.

Minimum 39 hours at the 3000-4000 level.

2.0 GPA in all required major and related courses (including specified General Education courses).

Note: A maximum of 30 hours may be earned in the College of Business and credited toward the degree.
