• ENGL 5000 - Introduction to Graduate Studies in English: Methodology and Bibliography
• ENGL 5050 - Theory and Criticism

• OR

• Literary Theory Course (3 hours)

• Two literature courses before 1800 (6 hours)
• Literature Electives (9 hours)
• Elective English courses/Thesis (12 hours)

Total: 33 hours

Comprehensive Examination

An oral comprehensive examination is required of all students, including the defense of a writing project of the student’s choosing either an ENGL 5998r research project, an ENGL 5999r thesis, or a revised class research paper.
