Associate Professor Brian O’Leary, Head
The Department of Psychology has developed a curriculum for its Bachelors of Science (BS) degree that meets the needs of our majors and a wide spectrum of students across the University. The Department’s undergraduate mission is to help students establish a strong foundation in the theoretical, scientific, and applied study of Psychology. Our BS degree allows students to move toward more advanced educational opportunities, including our highly regarded Masters of Science (MS) programs in Research and Industrial-Organizational Psychology, that lead to a professional career in Psychology. A BS in Psychology from UTC also prepares our majors for professional studies or direct work entry, thanks to an education firmly grounded in the liberal arts. The curriculum also provides a broad but intensive educational experience for students in other majors who have an interest in particular areas of Psychology that may support their career plans or goals. Coursework in the Department of Psychology promotes the accomplishment of learning objectives that include specific knowledge related to the sub-disciplines of Psychology, reading, public speaking, writing, data analysis, critical thinking, formal scientific thinking, and service.
