ECON 3060 - Public Finance


(3) Credit Hours

This course studies the role of government in an economy, providing a framework for evaluating government policies. Topics include taxation, government expenditures, budget deficits, market failures, and public goods provision. Why and how do governments intervene in the economy? How do government spending programs affect the labor supply? How does the current tax system affect the behavior of citizens? In this course, we seek to answer these and other questions and use the tools of economics in discussing a range of issues in public finance with a focus on current policy debates. Fall semester. Prerequisites: ECON 1010  or ECON 1020  with minimum grade of C or Department Head approval. Junior standing. Differential course fee will be assessed.
