ECON 4550 - Urban Economics

Why do some cities thrive and fail at different points in time? What are the causes and effects of spatial segregation within cities? To what extent is urban growth in the region a by-product of national economic development? What are the limits of equitable development amid fast urban growth? These and other issues impacting stakeholders in the private and public sectors of the metropolitan economy will be evaluated. Topics include industry location, urban residential location and travel behavior, the urban ghetto, housing markets, urban transportation, and environmental quality. Spring semester. Prerequisites: ECON 1010 or ECON 1020 with minimum grades of C or Department Head approval. Junior standing. Differential course fee will be assessed.
