HHP 5491 - Sedentary Behavior (3) Credit Hours
This graduate course seeks to examine the epidemiological, experimental, and the clinical evidence that sedentary behavior (i.e., very low energy expenditure, such as television viewing and desk work) is adversely associated with health outcomes, including cardio-metabolic risk biomarkers, type 2 diabetes and premature mortality. The course will provide insights into the determinants of sedentary behaviors as well as introduce evidence-basked approaches for decreasing sedentariness among population groups. Finally, the course seeks to highlight directions for further research on too much sitting as a modifiable health risk behavior.
