HHP 5370 - Community Nutrition (3) Credit Hours
This course covers issues in nutrition and public health, with an emphasis on how nutrition research is translated into dietary recommendations for chronic disease prevention. The process of conducting systematic reviews of the nutrition literature will be covered extensively in the course. We will focus on the relation of nutrition to obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer and community-based approaches to improving healthy eating in association with the prevention of these conditions. Review of Dietary Guidelines for Americans (My Plate); laws and standards affecting nutrition education and practice will also be covered. Prerequisites: departmnet head approval. Standard letter grading.
