HHP 3210 - Tourism Impacts


(3) Credit Hours

This course will provide students with an in-depth understanding of the impacts that tourism brings to destinations as well as residents and tourists there. To this end, this course consists of three major sections. In the first section, students will learn about the comprehensive and interrelated nature of tourism and its impacts, focusing on conceptual and theoretical perspectives surrounding tourism. In the second section, students will gain a detailed understanding of economic, environmental, socio-cultural, and political impacts of tourism at the local, regional, national, and international level. The final section focuses on different ways of monitoring and managing tourism impacts. Here, students will learn about basic impact assessment tools and strategies for sustainable tourism development. Prerequisites: HHP 3010 or department head approval.
