EDUC 4320 - Residency I (6) Credit Hours
During Residency I, which occurs the semester before Residency II, teacher candidates observe and actively engage in PreK-12 schools. Teacher candidates will spend approximately half the time in Pre-K-12 setting and the remaining time will be participating in class work and seminars. The course is designed to improve candidates’ content knowledge and teaching skills; classroom management, assessment, supporting diverse learners, using evidence-based instructional strategies, collaborating with colleagues, and developing relationships with families. This course interfaces specifically with the content areas of literacy, mathematics, social studies, science, music, art, dance and/or physical education. Fall and spring semesters. Prerequisites: Admission to Teacher Education Program, application for and admission to Residency I according to School of Educational guidelines or department head approval. Completion of Checkpoint 1 and Checkpoint 2.
