SOCW 4170 - Applied Research (3) Credit Hours
This course builds on the research and statistical knowledge and skills learned in previous course work. A comparison of both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies will be explored and examined through a mixed methods in-class project. In addition, students will work with the instructor to develop either an individual or group-led senior research project, which many groups will conduct in partnership with a community social service agency. Throughout the course of the semester, students will develop a research proposal based on their assigned project, create and submit an application to the UTC Institutional Review Board, develop a literature review and methods section of a research paper, and begin to collect data (pending approval from the Institutional Review Board). Prerequisites: SOCW 3070 , SOCW 3420 , SOCW 3760 with a minimum grade of C, and SOCW 4080 ; approved statistics course or department head approval.
