PHYS 3410 - Classical Mechanics (4) Credit Hours
Dynamics of particles and continuous media; Newton’s law of motion, conservation laws, generalized coordinates, Lagrange’s equations, and the principle of least action; the mechanics of continuous media, wave motion, sound, hydrostatics, rotational and irrotational flow, the equation of continuity, Laplace’s equation. Fall semester. Lecture 3 hours, recitation 2 hours. Prerequisites: PHYS 2300/PHYS 2300L, PHYS 2310/PHYS 2310L or PHYS 1030/PHYS 1030L, PHYS 1040/PHYS 1040L; or department head approval. Corequisite: MATH 2450 or MATH 2550 and PHYS 3410L or department head approval. Laboratory/studio course fee will be assessed.
