PHYS 3990 - Methods of Experimental Physics II


(3) Credit Hours

Experimental methods based on modern physics experiments, selected from such topics as atomic emission and absorption spectra, the Franck-Hertz experiment, the Stern-Gerlach experiment, quantum optics, electron-spin resonance, nuclear magnetic resonance, X-ray diffraction, and nuclear radiation measurements (utilizing Geiger-counters and multichannel analyzers). Spring semester. Lecture 1.5 hours, laboratory 3 hours. Prerequisites: PHYS 2300/PHYS 2300L, PHYS 2310/PHYS 2310L, PHYS 2320/PHYS 2320L; or PHYS 1030/PHYS 1030L, PHYS 1040/PHYS 1040L; MATH 2450; or approval of the department head. Laboratory/studio course fee will be assessed.
