EDUC 4465 - Residency II in Middle Grades

(10) Credit Hours

Residency II program offers a unique synthesis of theory and practice, building off Residency I, combining a yearlong classroom apprenticeship with a carefully aligned sequence of coursework. Residency II is a mutually beneficial partnership between UTC School of Education and partnership districts.  The partnership is one in which the integration of clinical experiences and coursework throughout the preparation program is co-designed to strengthen teacher preparation and improve schools and learning in the partner districts.  Teacher candidates spend the full academic year in a district school, developing under the guidance of an experienced mentor teacher. Using a variety of instructional coaching strategies, mentors provide valuable insight into effective teaching methodology, helping residents develop the knowledge, skills and habits of mind that come from years of experience in high-need classrooms.  Placements will ensure experiences in diverse schools every semester. Prerequisites: All education courses, 100% of content courses, admission to Teacher Education Program, application for and admission to Residency II, or department head approval. See the School of Education Checkpoints for complete information on required admission criteria. Corequisites: EDUC 4420 or department head approval. Laboratory/studio course fee will be applied.
