Introduction to parallel and distributed computing; models of parallel computers; parallel programming models; network topologies; performance metrics; theoretical evaluation of algorithms; implementation of candidate algorithms on sample distributed memory and shared memory architectures; background for practical implementation of new algorithms on parallel architectures. Prerequisite: CPSC 5000 or department head approval. (Intermediate knowledge of FORTRAN or C/C++ programming is assumed.) Differential course fee will be assessed.
